Loro Piana and the world of sailing

Loro Piana has developed a deep connection to the world of sailing. More than a sport, it is a lifestyle that the Maison shares many common values with: its commitment to tradition, its love for nature and the great outdoors, and its dedication to excellence and perfection.

Rooted in a time-honoured family passion

The Loro Piana family has always had a deep and genuine passion for sailing, starting at the lake near Valsesia and later moving to Sardinia. Sergio Loro Piana and Pier Luigi Loro Piana both view the sea as a moment to be in contact with the elements, as well as sharing a passion for competition. Indeed, to this day, Pier Luigi Loro Piana still participates in regattas with his boat My Song.

In quest for excellence at sea

Cementing its dedication to prime performance in sports and sailing, the Maison has sponsored numerous sailing events such as the Giraglia Regatta in Saint-Tropez and the Tre Golfi Sailing Week in Sorrento. The regatta is an important event in top-level Mediterranean sailing, with coastal races held over the course of four days, while the sailing week marks an eagerly awaited classic appointment in the international regatta calendar. Loro Piana’s commitments have reaffirmed its position as a purveyor of exquisite craftsmanship, timeless style, and classic refinement in the field of sailing.

Testing the waters

Sailing means contact with nature, but also research: it is an extraordinary open-air laboratory that has always been used by the Maison to experiment with high-performing and innovative fabric solutions. Amongst these is Windmate®, combining Loro Piana’s signature Wind fabric with knitted cashmere on the inside. Incredibly lightweight and durable, it was revolutionary at the time for its unique combination of warmth and water resistance.

Essential creations for life on deck

Two of the Maison’s Icons were born at sea: the Loro Piana Bomber in Windmate® and the White Sole shoes – designed to leave the deck spotless – both share a sailing heritage. Equally suited to the pier-bound lifestyle is the linen interpretation of the André shirt, another signature silhouette of the House. The result of technical challenges and joyful time spent by the waters, these creations effortlessly balance timeless elegance and versatility, able to seamlessly transition from sea to city.
